Barry Norman Retires As Missenden Tutor

Barry Norman SceneryAfter 14 years as a regular tutor at Missenden Railway Modellers weekends and the summer retreat Barry Norman is hanging up his tutor’s badge for the last time to concentrate more on his own projects. Barry first ran his “Art of Scenery” course at Missenden Abbey in 2007 and since then has run this course on several occasions. He also joined us for the Summer Retreat to become one of the “tutors in residence” for the week.

Although best known for his scenic modelling, having written many books on the subject and regularly appearing in the modelling press, Barry is very much an all round modeller and has on occasion tutored locomotive and kit building as our weekends. He also is well known for his light weight baseboard construction method, which is featured in the two DVDs in which he appears in the Right track series; the content of these is available to view in our Autumn 2020 Virtual Weekend. Barry went on to illustrate further his superb locomotive building skills in the articles he contributed to our Spring 2021 Virtual Weekend.

Barry’s retirement is not the end of scenic modelling at Missenden Abbey, for some time now we have also run a course with Paul Bambrick on back scenes & scenics and this will continued the tradition of scenic modelling started at the Abbey by Barry.

Over his many years of involvement with the Missenden Railway Modellers many have benefitted from Barry’s skill and words of wisdom, we wish him well in his retirement and look forward to viewing the fruits of his endeavours via the pages of the Railway Modelling press.
