Radio Control For Model Railways

A new tutor, Giles Favell, joins the Missenden Railway Modellers tutors to offer a course on the use of Radio Control within the hobby. Giles will be focusing on the techniques he has used to produce scale radio controlled road vehicles in both 7mm and 4mm scale. Adding a new level of automation and interest to any model railway layout.

xx10The course will follow the usual hands on Missenden Abbey format, with participants being guided through building a working chassis for a road vehicle. The chassis is ideal for fitting to one other the off-the-shelf die cast models that are available in various scales. A kit of parts will be provided to build the actual chassis and motorise it, these may be taken away at the end of the weekend. There will also be radio control equipment on hand to test your vehicles or you may purchase your own if desired. Course attendees will be given the details of what to purchase if they wish to go down this route.

Giles will not just guide you through the process and techniques he uses, but also offer advice for your own automation projects based on his experience of producing a large number of road vehicles, cranes, locomotives and animations using radio control. The course will also talk out the advantages of programmable very simple radio control transmitters and the benefits that can be gained from the more sophisticated equipment.

There will also be a number of Giles’ vehicles on view for you to see what can be achieved and also the possibility of having hands on experience of driving some of these models.
