4mm Locomotive & Kit Building
4mm Locomotive & Kit Building
Tony Gee and Tim Watson once again team up to tutor this ever popular course. Predominantly the course deals with locomotive and rolling stock building using etched or white metal cast kits.
The room caters for modellers of all scale up to and including 4mm to the foot, with typically a mix of gauges of stock being produced.
7mm Locomotive & Kit Building

Kevin Wilson and Lee Marsh will tutor the larger scale locomotive & kit construction course.
A room of 7mm and larger scale modellers building locomotives and rolling stock items from etched or cast metal kits.
Structures
Structures
You will have an opportunity to work at your own pace on one or more structures of your choice. Your tutor, Jerry Clifford, will be available to help you with your project whether it is making the most of a basic cardboard or plastic kit or a specific scratch-built replica based on a prototype.
Scenery
Scenic Modelling
A new course for 2027 focus on all aspects of scenic modelling.
Nigel Smith will tutor this hands-on scenery course.
Chris Hopper will once again be taking the weathering course. Chris will cover a variety of methods for achieving realistic weathered effects on your models, using both air brushing and non-air brushing techniques.
A limited number of air brushing stations will be available for those that do not have their own.
Weathering
Semaphore Signal Construction
Karl Crowther will be leading a group learning how to build and operation all forms of semaphore signals. Karl will share his knowledge of signalling, the techniques he uses and his method of controlling them. As with other courses at our weekends this will be a practical course with participants building their own signal projects under the expert tuition of Karl.
DCC
DCC Sound & Lights
The course covers the choice, installation and setup of DCC (Digital Command Control) decoders from a finescale perspective in locomotives and rolling stock, with a leaning towards sound. It is aimed primarily but not exclusively towards newcomers to the DCC or DCC Sound world, who want to explore how DCC and DCC sound-equipped locos can enhance the operational realism of their railway and come away with at least one working DCC locomotive ready to go.

How the Weekend Works
If you are new to the Missenden Railway Modeller weekends and wish to get a flavour for what we do then why not look at one of our virtual weekends that we ran during the Covid pandemic. Included are recordings of the various live sessions that took place over the two weekends.
