The Model Railway Scenery course provides overall advice about a range of techniques to enable you to develop the scenic elements of your railway and build a convincing railway scene. This could be part of an existing layout project you bring along or a diorama or other project you decide to work on just for this course as a learning exercise. Advice will be available on specific techniques as well as how to plan scenery as part of the layout design process. The course will follow the same, practical format as a number of our other courses. You will learn and work in a relaxed environment with the tutor, Nigel Smith, on hand to help you plan, start and/or progress your own project.
The course is suitable for participants of all levels of experience, knowledge and ability who want to improve their scenic skills including, ground surfaces, water, civil engineering and vegetation.
There is a general list of tools and materials available for the course, but you may want to tailor what you bring to your specific project. The list may appear lengthy, but experience also suggests that a fellow course member will often loan you a tool if you don’t have it.
You will have an opportunity to contact the tutor before the course to ensure that you are well prepared and will get as much as possible out of the course.
