Weathering Autumn 2021

An example of Andrew’s work

Weathering is a topic that is growing enormously in popularity among railway modellers. Whatever your preferred scale or gauge, whatever your ability level, our course will encourage you to create believable, 100% accurate weathering effects based around prototype reference material.

Prior to his untimely death in August 2021 Mick Bonwick had already announced his intention to retire from tutoring  and we were planning a handover to two new tutors – Chris Hopper and Andrew Thompson – following the Autumn weekend. We have decided to include a weathering room this Autumn as it is always a popular option for attendees.  We plan to offer a course based on alternative ways of weathering led by Andrew Thompson with support from Chris Hopper with a return to the more traditional, air brush based course next Spring.  We are unable to organise an “equipment-provided” airbrush component this Autumn.

We are happy for a limited number of course members who have attended before and who have their own airbrushing equipment to attend the Autumn 2021 course and do airbrush weathering as part of their weekend activities – subject to the spray booth they bring being suitable and safe. Please contact us to discuss the suitability of your spray booth or any other issues at the time of booking. In addition,  a list of materials and tools you will need bring to the course is provided below.

Chris and Andrew are experienced modellers with a wide range of weathering interests. Our course will cater both for beginners and for those with some experience. We plan that from Spring 2022 onwards we will provide tuition in a wide range of weathering techniques including air-brushing, washes, pigments, oils, pastels, brushes and more. This will include areas such as fading, streaking, rust-pitting and layering. In the Spring we also hope to have a small range of airbrush equipment available for those new to this aspect of the hobby.

Please note the Mobile Weathering Studio sales stand will not be available at this weekend therefore attendees should bring all the supplies they require with them.
