As part of the Summer Retreat we always hold an event on the Wednesday afternoon/evening. This year we will again be bringing in a speaker to give a talk after dinner. This year we are pleased to welcome Giles Favell, well known on the exhibition circuit for his layouts End Of The Line and Denton Brook. Giles will also be joining us in the Autumn to tutor a course on Radio Control.
As last year we will be opening the event to not just those attending the Retreat but also to anybody that wishes to come. We are offering a package including a three course dinner and attendance of the talk after dinner. Dinner will be from 6:45pm and guests are welcome to arrive earlier and either spend time in the bar or drop into the work rooms used for the Summer Retreat.
Particularly now that the quality of model railway layouts has reached such a high standard, with almost flawless running and extraordinary scenic work, it seemed to me that there was something out of place on occasion with the contrast of moving trains and static road vehicles – where they should properly be moving. This lead to experimenting with the conversion of scale vehicles to a realistic radio control to complement the railway operation. In the last fourteen years since the first successful experiment that resulted in the 7mm layout ‘The End of The Line’, technology has got even better, allowing for programmable transmitters to give realistic acceleration and slow steering etc..
