    Railway Modellers' Weekend

This is the original and BIG weekend where almost 70 modellers occupy the Abbey, working in several different areas. It is a great gathering wih lots to do, see, ask, learn and talk about.

This course has been at Missenden Abbey since 1981. In 1996 Martin Brent made the course more practical, so that participants gained new skills and built something to show after the weekend. The present success of this weekend is due to his innovative format.

It is aimed at those modellers with some basic skills, who want expert advice and time for uninterrupted modelling. If you are having difficulty with making a locomotive run, then bring it along; one of our tutors will show you how to make it work.

In addition to locomotive and rolling stock building, there will be optional specialist sessions and demonstrations on :-

4mm Locomotive Kit construction (aimed at basic level) with Tony Wright
Advanced Locomotive Chassis Clinic and machine tools with Tim Watson
7mm Modelling
(will include Loco kit preparation, soldering etc) with Bob Alderman

Painting and Lining with Ian Rathbone

‘Watching Ian drawing straight lining on a 4mm coach by hand (without a ruler) is rather like watching a concert pianist, when one is just learning to play the piano.’
